SingStar servers shutting down, players unite for one last song

The SingStar servers have gone dark, marking the end of an era for one of the classic PlayStation games.

Sony had announced its plans to shut down the SingStar servers on January 31, 2020, and last night saw the game officially leave the stage.

All online functionality, network features, and digital music downloads are now disabled. However, players can still enjoy the game in offline mode, using physical discs or previously downloaded songs.

Fans took to social media to reminisce about the series and express their sadness at the servers’ closure.

One user wrote: “Finally! Singstar has disappeared from the #PlayStation 3 XMB.” Another commented: “Sony have taken down the servers early, but that won’t stop us playing #SingStar.”

The game was one of the most popular party games on PS2 and PS3, but it never quite regained the same level of popularity on PS4.

A spokesperson for Sony said: “We’re sorry to see SingStar go, but we’re excited about the future of PlayStation and the games we have in store for players.”

It remains to be seen whether the series will make a comeback in the future, but for now, it’s time to say goodbye to one of PlayStation’s most beloved games.
