Like countless individuals worldwide, I’m currently completely enamored with the peaceful and cozy realm of Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, even I have to admit that there are numerous aspects that irk me. Specifically, the way the UI and menus in Animal Crossing operate, often making even simple tasks feel like a real chore. Not to mention the numerous lines of dialogue required to get anything accomplished. Take Orville, for instance.

YouTuber Nick Ha has crafted his own version of a Nintendo Direct focused on quality-of-life improvements for Animal Crossing. With the aid of talented voice actors and extensive editing, this video offers a surprisingly realistic visualization of the changes fans have been longing for. Why do things one by one when you can do them in stacks? Why not have crafting benches inside your house that are connected to your storage? There’s even a suggestion on how to speed up Orville’s incessant chatter.

Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that we’ll see these changes actually implemented by Nintendo post-release. But it’s still nice to daydream about what could have been. The abundance of community suggestions highlights the significance of getting the UI design right in games. In terms of that, I can only give New Horizons a C+.
