Netflix’s Resident Evil Updates & More

Netflix unexpectedly published a plot description of its unannounced Resident Evil show, but then promptly withdrew the information. The Resident Evil Wiki’s Twitter account exposed the description of the Netflix adaptation of Resident Evil, which was initially published on Netflix’s Media Center. Although it has now vanished, thanks to the power of the Wayback Machine, we can journey back in time to uncover what we weren’t supposed to know yet.

It has ultimately been affirmed that a Netflix adaptation of Resident Evil is in the making. Attached is a description retrieved from Netflix’s Media Center. Here’s the description:

“The town of Clearfield, MD has long lurked in the shade of three seemingly unconnected colossi – the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, D.C. Today, 26 years after the discovery of the T-Virus, the secrets held by the three will begin to be unveiled at the initial signs of an outbreak.”

So, what does this convey to us? Not a great deal! As far as I can tell, Clearfield, MD doesn’t feature in the Resident Evil universe, and I’m not acquainted with Greenwood Asylum in the context of the horror franchise. Naturally, the nefarious Umbrella Corporation will be recognizable to Resident Evil fans, but I suspect we’re going to encounter unfamiliar locations in this Netflix show.

In January 2019, Deadline reported that “the plan is for the series to broaden the Resident Evil universe and intensify the existing mythology”. Apparently, the show will maintain the fundamental premise of Resident Evil and “explore the murky inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order brought about by the outbreak of the T-virus”.

Things are undoubtedly heating up in the realm of Resident Evil. The Resident Evil 3 remake is即将推出 soon, and it seems that Capcom is adhering to a first-person perspective for Resident Evil 8, following the success of Resident Evil 7.
