“Liberation Maiden: PS3 Text-Based Adventure”

Suda 51’s 3DS eShop and iOS shmup Liberation Maiden is set to have a text-based adventure game spin-off on PS3 called Liberation Maiden: SIN.

As disclosed by Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu (via Kotaku), the star of this spin-off won’t be the teenage girl/president/world-saving mech pilot Shoko Ohzora. Instead, it will feature a new male protagonist named Kiyoto Kaidou. According to Joystiq, Kaidou is a mind-reading member of the president’s cabinet, and there will be a dating sim aspect where he decides which colleagues to go out with.

However, Liberation Maiden: SIN won’t be developed by Grasshopper. Instead, 5pb. Games, the creator of digital novels like Steins; Gate and Robotics; Notes, will be taking on the task of creating it. Meanwhile, Suda 51, the mastermind behind Grasshopper, will serve as a scenario writer.

The original Liberation Maiden was somewhat of an average curiosity. “Play Liberation Maiden if you’re looking for an acceptable arcade shooter,” Chris Donlan wrote in his Eurogamer review. However, he cautioned, “Approach it expecting another quirky burst of Suda 51 charm and, aside from the President Mech, you might be a bit disappointed.”

Liberation Maiden: SIN is slated to be released in Japan later this year. No international release has been announced as of yet.
