Assassin’s Creed Updates & More Gaming News

Today’s update for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla brings in a sprinkling of fresh skills, a multitude of bug fixes, and the convenient option to turn off cinematic finishers.

Finishers are those exaggerated moves that Eivor frequently executes when defeating an enemy. It could be slashing the necks of wolves, impaling banner-holding foes with their own flagpole, or suffocating giants until the crack of their necks is heard.

In the beginning of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, these finishers are quite a spectacle to behold. However, after more than 150 hours of gameplay, they become rather irritating. There’s no need to watch Eivor going all out on a helpless wolf just to complete a daily challenge. And now, that won’t be the case anymore!

A set of three new skills has also made its way into the game today: passive abilities that, in this instance, all function to disregard hit interruptions and flinching. Much like the toggle for finishers, this seems to be a step towards accelerating and streamlining the combat experience.

Cold Rage enables you to ignore hit interruptions while carrying out successive regular melee attacks. Eye of the North stops you from flinching due to hits while aiming with your bow. Intense Rage allows you to ignore hit interruptions while performing your next off-hand parry or special attack. Each of these effects recharges after a few seconds.

Another modification as part of today’s update is the capability to use the outfit appearances of Bayek and Altair with armour transmog.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Title Update 1.2.1 is set to launch tomorrow: April 27.

Over 80 bugfixes and adjustments are also incorporated, including fixes for progression blockers such as the inability to duel with Dag, and the reintroduction of some missing fish. Ubisoft’s detailed patch notes can be found here.

The update also prepares Valhalla for the launch of its first major expansion, the Ireland-set Wrath of the Druids, on 17th May. This will be a separate download.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft stated that it will now spend more time on each Assassin’s Creed Valhalla patch before making them live, in an effort to reduce the game’s bugs more effectively. Patches for the game will now shift from a four-week to a five-week release cycle “to allow for more thorough testing and refinement”, which is also the reason for the slight delay in the release of Wrath of the Druids.
