Battlefield 4: Big Discoveries & Updates

For several months, the developer of Battlefield 4, DICE, has been dropping hints that their latest first-person shooter might incorporate a Megalodon (that is, a colossal shark) Easter egg. This has spurred thousands of fans, among them the Captain Ahab-esque YouTuber Jackfrags, to navigate the game’s seas in pursuit of this evasive creature.

It seems that his endeavors have ultimately borne fruit, as the Megalodon has at last been unearthed. Jackfrags possesses video proof of the extinct breed of shark, captured from the map Parcel Storm. Apparently, one needs to assemble 10 players around the buoy for the majestic creature to materialize.

Last October, DICE’s Aleksander Grøndal teased the creature in a Swedish interview, stating that the game contained an Easter egg that would cause everyone on the server to exclaim, “What the f*** was that?” Additionally, the map’s name, Phantom Prospect, was believed to be a reference to a book about divers engaged in a battle with a giant shark. There was even an installment of the Battlefield Friends web series in which a character yells at his comrades to get out of the water because there are Megalodons in it. Despite this being a fan-created series, there is a line from the show in Battlefield 4’s single-player campaign, indicating that the developers and fans were collaborating on this matter.

Surely, the Megalodon is genuine, and its presence adds a touch more wonder to our ordinary lives. Now, if only someone could discover something that remarkable in Shadow of the Colossus.
