Silent Hill: New Movie, Remake & More News

Silent Hill movie director Christophe Gans has made an exciting announcement: he is working on not just one, but two new video game-themed movies. One of these movies is based on the misty town of Silent Hill, while the other features the unnerving Japanese horror series, Fatal Frame/Project Zero.

In an interview with the French-language news site Allocine about his career and future plans (thanks to Rely on Horror for the heads-up), Gans stated that it’s high time “to create a new [Silent Hill movie]”. He also disclosed that he is once again collaborating with Victor Hadida for both of these projects. From what I could gather with my GCSE French and a bit of assistance from Google Translate, it appears that the movie will once again focus on the cult. Gans mentioned that the Silent Hill movie will always be firmly rooted in the atmosphere of a small American town “devastated by puritanism”.

On the other hand, the Project Zero movie will be shot in its native Japan. Gans didn’t want to “displace the game from its Japanese haunted house setting”.

The first Silent Hill movie, despite some questionable accents, was unexpectedly enjoyable as a game-to-movie adaptation. This was largely due to the atmospheric sound by long-time series composer Akira Yamaoka and the faithful recreation of the series’ most recognizable monster designs. However, its sequel, Silent Hill Revelation, was regarded by many as a senseless disaster.

In other significant Silent Hill news, Konami confirmed last week that although it “cannot disclose anything at this moment” about the rumored Silent Hill games in development, it is “listening to customer feedback and contemplating ways to deliver the next title”.

Amazingly, even almost two decades after the release of the groundbreaking psychological horror game Silent Hill 2 for the original PlayStation 2, secret features are still being unearthed. Twitter users punk7890 and Bigmanjapan discovered that a secret mini-map and a Save Anywhere feature can be unlocked once players have completed the game and obtained the Dog Ending.

Additionally, a group of volunteer developers and modders have been quietly enhancing and improving the PC version of the acclaimed psychological horror, Silent Hill 2.
