Over the weekend, it was Movies Week on Strictly Come Dancing, and what a spectacle it was! One couple took the stage and danced to the captivating Pokémon theme.

Paralympian Will Bayley and his partner Janette Manrara transformed into the beloved characters of Ash and Pikachu for a thrilling Paso Doble. The Paso Doble, a fast-paced Spanish dance renowned for its sharp, military-like steps, added an extra layer of intensity to their performance. In one version of this dance, the male dancer assumes the role of a bullfighter, while the female takes on the role of his cape. And that’s precisely the version that was ingeniously combined with Pokémon in this performance. Bayley stepped into the shoes of an Ash matador, while Manrara donned a dress to become the charming Pikachu. One could imagine that Ash was endeavoring to divert his unseen opponent with Pikachu’s dynamic moves.

Alas, it didn’t quite have the desired effect, but the majority of the judges were kind in their feedback. Motsi Mabuse expressed, “I loved the build up in the middle. I felt your bodies building up and then you released the power.” Bruno Tonioli, on the other hand, suggested that it required more “artistry”. The four judges bestowed fives and sixes upon the performance.
