Let’s Unveil HBO’s The Last of Us Trailer

Yesterday, on The Last of Us day, we were privileged to witness the first comprehensive trailer for the upcoming HBO adaptation of the franchise, featuring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.

This trailer, though lacking actual dialogue between the characters (but filled with tense gazes and some furtive shushing), still managed to present an evocative portrayal of the world that HBO has crafted for its TV viewers. You can check out this trailer for yourself below.

Right from the get-go, it’s evident that HBO has approached this adaptation with utmost seriousness. Several scenes seem to have been directly plucked from Naughty Dog’s video game series. There’s a plethora to dissect in the roughly one and a half minutes of footage, so let’s delve right in.

The trailer commences with Joel in Boston. The streets here are worn and battered, much like in the game, following the Cordyceps outbreak 20 years ago.

Details directly borrowed from the game include signs enforcing curfews throughout the city and residents painting over a Firefly symbol under the watchful eye of Fedra.

The next image displayed in HBO’s new trailer is of Joel’s watch, a gift from his daughter Sarah, as those who have played the game would be aware.

As can be seen in the following photos, the cracks and bullet impacts are nearly an exact match to the game’s when compared side by side.
