ORIGINAL STORY 10/3/15:

The ship-based FPS Descent has initiated a Kickstarter campaign for a contemporary reboot, Descent: Underground. This is an exciting development for fans of the franchise!

Eric “Wingman” Peterson, the former president of production and development at Star Citizen, is leading this campaign at his new Austin-based Descendent Studios. Peterson has an impressive resume, having worked on Conquest Frontier Wars, Starlancer, Wing Commander 4, and Freelancer. The Descent IP-holder Interplay has joined forces with this new studio, making it an official installment in the series that first debuted in 1995. This collaboration holds great promise for the future of the Descent franchise.

According to Peterson’s LinkedIn, Descent: Underground is described as a “six degrees of freedom MOBA type of combat game.” Indeed, the Kickstarter focuses on multiplayer matches with teams of up to 16 players competing in several game modes. These include the classic Deathmatch, the collection-race Capture the Ore, the CTF-inspired Mining for Minerals, and the territory control Capture the Asteroid. Each mode offers a unique and engaging gameplay experience.

There will be eight distinct types of ships available, along with four maps, each brimming with secrets and power-ups that can be discovered and utilized. This adds an extra layer of depth and exploration to the game.

Descent: Underground is being developed using Unreal Engine 4, and it looks more impressive than the 2012 Descent fan remake developed in Unreal Engine 3. The graphics and gameplay are expected to be top-notch, providing players with an immersive and thrilling experience.

If Descent: Underground reaches its $600K goal, it aims for a PC release in March 2016. This is an exciting prospect for gamers who have been waiting for a new installment in the Descent series.

Early supporters can secure a copy of the game for $25. However, the price will increase to $30 and then $35 for those who join the campaign later. The Kickstarter campaign runs until 10th April. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to be part of the Descent: Underground adventure!
