A New Single-Player MechWarrior Is Coming

MechWarrior 5 developer Piranha Games is diligently crafting a fresh title within the enduring MechWarrior series. Currently, the studio aspires to unveil this project in the year 2024.

Russ Bullock, the president of Piranha Games, disclosed this exciting news during an interview with the NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast (courtesy of PC Gamer). He tantalizingly remarked, “Let me put it this way: It’s not MechWarrior Online 2, nor is it the successor to MechWarrior Online, and it’s not an online PvP [game]. Picture it more along the lines of MechWarrior 5, but as a standalone game, a distinct product.”

According to Bullock, this currently enigmatic title, which is being developed for both PC and consoles, follows a “more of a single-player co-op sort of trajectory”. Beyond this, however, details are scarce, and a comprehensive reveal might not take place until this autumn.

In another part of the interview, Bullock discussed MechWarrior Online, stating that the studio would undoubtedly be keen on creating a sequel to its 2013 game. Nevertheless, this won’t occur until licensing matters have been resolved. Currently, Piranha holds the MechWarrior license until “at least” 2025, but would “likely require an extension to 2030” in order to develop MechWarrior Online 2.

“You simply can’t create a MechWarrior Online 2 if your license might expire in 2025,” he added, emphasizing that the project would demand “more time and resources than that”.

In the near future, Piranha has more in the pipeline for MechWarrior 5, with its fourth DLC release – Rise of Rasalhague – set to launch on January 26th.
