Hot on the heels of its BAFTA victories, developer Larian has offered a tantalizing glimpse into the upcoming “enhanced” evil endings of Baldur’s Gate 3. In a community update shared on Steam, the developer elaborated on its plans for Patch 7 and the game’s future. Alongside addressing a slew of bugs and other routine matters, this particular patch will also introduce official modding tools to Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian claims that this will enable players to “transform Baldur’s Gate 3 into the bizarre nightmare realm of their wildest imaginations”.

And, with the mention of nightmares, let’s segue into those evil endings. However, before we do, please be mindful of potential Baldur’s Gate 3 spoilers.

“We’ve got a few aces up our sleeves,” Larian initiated. It then disclosed that soon, players will be able to uncover “even more sinister conclusions” for the most malevolent playthroughs. “And yes, that includes you non-Durge players,” the studio noted.

The studio then shared two gifs that offer a hint of the impending darkness, which you can view below.

“Well. What are your thoughts on those?”

Larian will be conducting a closed beta on PC for Patch 7, which will be accessible to a select group of Baldur’s Gate 3 players. It stated that it will share more details in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

In addition to this upcoming patch, the team mentioned that it will continue to tackle any bugs and similar issues that arise in the game. It is also “energetically” working to incorporate Crossplay and a Photo Mode into Baldur’s Gate 3. The developer cautioned that these additions will “probably be further in the future”, due to the effort required for their implementation.

Regarding the even more distant future, Larian recently affirmed that its next game will not be Baldur’s Gate 4, DLC, or anything related to Dungeons and Dragons. Reflecting on this, studio head Swen Vincke had a brief message for the Baldur’s Gate 3 community:

“I’m not sure if we’ll succeed, but looking at our narrative, visual, and gameplay plans, I believe what we’re working on now will be our greatest work yet,” he said. “I get as excited as a child when viewing the key imagery, eager to show it to everyone immediately and frustrated by having to wait until it’s fully functional.”

“Yes, it’s hype, but it’s hype because it truly looks and feels amazing.”
