Callisto Protocol: 60 FPS Mode Confirmed

The Callisto Protocol publisher Krafton has made an exciting announcement: the game will feature a 60 FPS performance mode. This comes just after Gotham Knights made headlines for lacking such a mode on consoles.

Last night, in response to some confusion regarding the game’s release date, the official Callisto Protocol account on Twitter reaffirmed that the space survival horror will be launching on December 2nd. The tweet also emphasized, “And yes, we’ll have a 60 FPS performance mode.”

The news that Gotham Knights will be limited to 30 FPS on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S caused quite a stir earlier this week, especially as it’s set to be released this Friday. The Batman sidekick adventure previously decided to abandon its planned PS4 and Xbox One versions in an attempt to “provide players with the best possible gameplay experience.”

There was some uncertainty last night about a potential delay for The Callisto Protocol. This was based on an incorrect listing for Krafton’s game on the Epic Game Store Halloween Sale page, which showed a February 12, 2023 release date. However, it has been confirmed once again that the game’s release date remains unchanged (it seems someone simply got the 12/2 and 2/12 date formats mixed up).

“We would love to inform you all that we will be shipping globally on December 2nd. And yes, we’ll have a 60 FPS performance mode.” – The Callisto Protocol (@CallistoTheGame) October 18, 2022

The Callisto Protocol describes itself as a “new story-driven single-player survival horror game from the creators of Dead Space.” It is being developed by Striking Distance Studios, a team led by Glen Schofield, the co-creator of Dead Space at the now-closed Visceral Games, along with other former Visceral leaders.

A delay for The Callisto Protocol always seemed improbable. Doing so could result in its launch occurring after the arrival of EA Motive’s upcoming Dead Space 1 remake, which is scheduled for release just over a month later on January 27th.
