Concord: Extended Beta & Fascinating Insights

The early access beta for Firewalk’s thrilling 5v5 sci-fi shooter Concord has received an extension. This exciting development means that players will have more time to immerse themselves in the action-packed world of Concord.

The beta, which initially had its conclusion slated for last night, will now continue until this evening. It will reach its climax at 8pm UK time on 15th July. This extension offers players an additional opportunity to explore and enjoy the game.

This beta comes with a plethora of exciting features. It includes four captivating maps to explore: Freewater, Star Chamber, Water Hazard, and Shock Risk. Additionally, it offers three engaging modes: Clash Point, Trophy Hunt, and Cargo Run. Not to mention, all 16 Freegunners, the dynamic player characters, are at the players’ disposal to test and master during the beta.

Last week, the developer Firewalk made an announcement that the early access beta would be accessible not only to those who had pre-ordered the game but also to all PS Plus users. On the PC platform, however, the beta remained exclusive to those who had already pre-ordered. At the time of writing, the concurrent peak on PC reached 1124 players.

It is anticipated that these numbers will experience a significant increase later this week when the Concord team hosts its highly anticipated open beta.

The open beta is set to take place from 18th to 21st July. It will introduce an exciting new mode called Area Control, as well as an additional map named Bone Mines. This expansion promises to add more depth and variety to the gameplay experience.

For PS5 users, the pre-download for access to the open beta will be available from Wednesday, 17th July at 10am PDT. For those in the UK, this translates to 6pm.

“If you’re planning to join us for both the early access and the open beta, your progress will seamlessly carry over between the weekends,” the Concord team stated in a blog post last week. “Nevertheless, it’s important to note that your progress from either beta will not transfer to our official launch on 23rd August.”

In terms of rewards, participants in Concord’s betas will be rewarded with a Frog Weapon Charm (Firewalk clarified that Frog stands for “From Orbit to Ground”, which is the name of the Northstar’s drop ship, not an actual frog), a Star Flare Icon, and a Business Card. These rewards add an extra incentive for players to engage in the betas.

Heads up: we’re going to be extending the #ConcordBeta availability to Monday, July 15th, 12pm PDT | 9pm CEST | 4am JST—so make sure you get in those extra rounds, earn those levels, and extract all the Blue Buddies that you can! pic.twitter.com/ZPUx7T8zUA

For those seeking more information about this hero shooter, our Chris had the opportunity to get hands-on with Concord earlier this year. “Concord inevitably gives the impression of being similar to many other proficient games created by highly competent former-developers of other significant, successful multiplayer games,” he wrote in Eurogamer’s Concord preview.

“In other words: a game that places individual moments of that high-level competency within its various disciplines – featuring diverse, well-developed characters! A satisfying gunfeel! Intelligently-limited verticality! Sensible environment design! And no gameplay-affecting microtransactions! – above an overall uniqueness of vision that ties it all together.”
