Exciting! Football Manager-Style Blood Bowl Revealed

Following the release of Space Hulk screenshots this morning, here comes more Warhammer-related excitement: A Football Manager-style Blood Bowl game is in the making.

Blood Bowl: Star Coach is crafted by Cyanide, the creator of 2009’s Blood Bowl and, more recently, Dungeonbowl. It’s a free-to-play online PC game slated for release on PC, Mac, and tablets in the second quarter of 2013, that is, from April to June.

Blood Bowl is Games Workshop’s violent American Football-themed Warhammer spin-off. Cyanide labels Star Coach as a “tactical multiplayer team-building game”. It encompasses the dwarf, human, orc, skaven, wood elf, and chaos races from the fantasy universe. You get to create your own Blood Bowl team and develop an offensive and defensive playbook.

Then, you engage in battles against other players, with cross-platform multiplayer functionality supported. You can hire star players and recruit new staff. There’s a replay mode known as Cabalvision.

“There are numerous ways to play Blood Bowl and a plethora of extensions have already been developed,” stated Cyanide boss Patrick Pligersdorffer. “Blood Bowl: Star Coach will appeal to both fans of football management and pure Blood Bowl enthusiasts. Players will encounter all the typical emotions and the depth of play of a management game, as well as the fun and originality unique to the Blood Bowl universe.”

The first five screenshots are presented below.
