Facebook reveals Oculus Quest 2 makeover

Facebook has seemingly revealed the Oculus Quest 2 headset ahead of an official announcement that is planned for this week.

Two videos appeared on the Facebook Blueprint website, showcasing the next all-in-one VR system. Although some of the information has since been removed, some remains, and of course, the videos were promptly ripped and published on YouTube.

We have the specifications, but not the release date or price. Here’s an inside look at what’s in store:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2 processor
  • 6GB of RAM
  • Nearly 2K resolution per eye – that’s over 50% more pixels than the Quest 1
  • 3D positional audio
  • New controller ergonomics
  • Optional 256GB of built-in storage

Notably, all Quest games are compatible with the Quest 2, and there’s a new softtouch strap to make it easier to put on and take off. The Quest 2 is smaller and lighter than its predecessor.

Stay tuned for more on the Oculus Quest 2 when the official announcement is made, likely at the Facebook Connect developer conference on Wednesday, September 16th.
