Nintendo Account Service Debuts in Japan

Nintendo has embarked on the rollout of its freshly introduced account service, charmingly named Nintendo Account, commencing in Japan.

This comprehensive new membership plan is meticulously crafted to function as a unified login for all Nintendo platforms, encompassing future Nintendo applications for tablets and smartphones.

You’ll also utilize the Nintendo Account to access the company’s forthcoming NX console, which is slated to be unveiled in the coming year.

Any individual with an existing Nintendo Network ID registered with a Japanese Wii U or 3DS can now enroll for a Nintendo Account through the service’s brand-new website.

By taking this step, your Wii U purchase history and any 3DS purchases made since the introduction of NNID will be imported (thanks, Cheesemeister. Additionally, there’s a page labeled Discounts Just for You.

If you don’t possess a NNID at all, you can still sign up from scratch and log in using your Facebook, Twitter, or Google+ particulars – or simply an email address.

For the time being, NNIDs will continue to exist and are likely to remain the means employed to identify users on Wii U and 3DS.

However, the Nintendo Account now encompasses NNIDs and any social platforms you desire to link, and will bind them all to Nintendo’s digital services and marketplace.

As of now, there is no information regarding when the Nintendo Account registration will commence for the rest of the world.

Currently, Japanese account holders receive 100 Yen in return for every 1000 Yen spent on the eShop within a 24-hour period – analogous to the former Nintendo Network Premium promotion.
